What TIME is it? March madness? Time!

The March hare & I do take on  the same look this time of year. Moody March, indeed. My new
way of life as  solo crone is of need of some spicing up. Watching  snow melt isn't quite what I have in mind.
I roamed downtown to our library, and I always check the cast away books. Over the years, in the many places I have lived, I have found excellent books this way, plus I donate extra for the Library.
Where I live now is the fanciest library I have visited ( since I was youngster & this library was just built & grand opening) in decades, the cast away books have their own alcove & bench to quietly
choose from the 3! bookshelves.   It was a treasure hunt! I was overwhelmed with the titles.
But tucked & cramped down the side of the bookshelves was a colourful, unique size book, pristine
dust jacket, caught my eye!  What? author Susan Hill ( The Women in Black)  " Howard's End is on the Landing" ( I loved the movie with Emma Thompson & Anthony Hopkins).
There must be a mistake!  No, barcode is red marker scratched out, Its been tossed! I quickly went to the most librainian looking women I could find and said " I would love this book" " I found it in the cast away books"! ( giving her time to realize the error?) " oh yes,  that will be 50 cents" .
Smiling on the outside, thinking " this a mistake " on the inside, I could NOT pay 50 cents for this beautiful book, by an excellent author.  The guilt was fierce, I looked in my wallet, only money I had was 5$ bill.  " please take this for this fabulous book" I said.  The kind eyed, real librarian, looking women smiled back, " are you sure?" she said.  In my head I am stunned at my find & shocked that
this library was, was so cavalier about quality authors ( in my opinion, I only was a contract Library worker once) " Yes of course, for the library" I said.  The kind women thanked me, I flushed and said " my pleasure" and darted for the exit.
At home, I was anxious to read this treasure ( to me it was) " Howard's End is on the Landing"
"A Year of Reading from Home". Susan Hill.
I was enchanted, every chapter titled " humously" for the books she was discussing, the point was to pick 40 from her 700 or so books in her person library she would want with her on a dessert island.
Susan Hill is a professional writer for 50 years, wrote 37 books,  educated at King's College London during the 60's!
Fun Days! Also had a BBC show that criticed books, interviewed authors.

I won't go on, although this is treasure trove of literary who's who. Victorian , Edwardian, 20th century, authors.  She also self published & printed books ( as her idol Virginia Wolf & husband did)

Reading this book I thought of those who would Love! to read this!  I jumped on Indigo/ Chapters but only paperback $23-24$ could be bought, then Amazon .  Well hold on to your nickers!
Yes they had hardcover like the one I purchased, & I could NOT believe the price $153? Canadian dollars!  Yes paperback for $16-17$ US.

Well, how about that! Yes, this is self published by the author, possibly limited .  If your library has this book, it is an excellent read,  from HER perspective.  I do admire intelligent women ( I may not agree with them)  their educated knowledge sets an inquisitive mind on the hunt to form ones own! opinions. Wink 😉

the front of the book looks like two bookends
it's beautiful 😍

I have been having peculiar " book" related events ever since.   But until next time,
Check your library cast away's ♥️ Prudence

    1. I still can't believe it! It is a Fabulous read, so much about author & books. She knew several personally. I was amused at her critique though, but I admire her knowledge and perspective. I love hearing from you xoxoxox

  2. Was it a week ago that I first tried to comment on this from my phone and then promptly forgot it didn't work? Jeez Louise, where does the time go! :P

What a wonderful stroke of luck to find that book - I'll admit to being terribly envious, except I know it's in good hands. 🖤
